Cycling snacks: Energy Balls & Raw Brownies by Axelle Dubau-Prevot

Axelle Dubau-Prevot, former pro cyclist, nutrition coach and author of "CHALLENGE VÉGÉTAL", shares two of her favorite cycling snack recipes. 

 

Raw Brownies

No baking, no sugar, no flour, no eggs, no milk – but so rich in chocolate flavor you will happily and guiltlessly devour them! The cocoa powder is really nutritious and full of antioxidants. The dates are an amazing source of fiber and taste just like brown sugar.

For 8 servings, you will need:

100g date paste
40g walnuts
40g coconut flour
3c. cocoa powder 
1 handful of nuts (optional) 

How to:

Use a food processor to grind the walnuts into a fine flour. Add in the rest of the ingredients, and process again until a sticky, smooth dough is formed. Take 20 grams per serving, and roll the dough in your hand. You can roll them in a bit cocoa powder. That's it!

 

Energy Balls with Sesame

Sesame seeds are and excellent source of many essential minerals including copper, manganese, calcium, magnesium, iron, phosphorus and zinc. For bike refuel, you can add some similar oats: The nutrition profile of oats reads more like a supplement with a high fiber content which promotes satiety - it keeps you full for a long time. This is why these energy balls are an excellent source of energy for rides or a great afternoon treat!

For 8 servings, you will need:

50g dates (preferably medjoul)
1 tablespoon peanut butter
4 tablespoons sesame seeds
30g cashew nuts
1 teaspoon psyllium or brown linen or chia seeds (crushed)
A bit of cinnamon
1 tablespoon of water

How to:

Process the oats in a food processor till they are grainy in texture. Add sesame seeds and pulse a few times until oats and sesame seeds are mixed well. Add dates, and all the ingredients and process till everything mixes well and forms a sticky dough. Take around 20 grams of the dough per serving, and roll them in your hand. You can roll them in a bit of sesame seeds. That's it!
